Associate Pastor - Mount Pleasant

Description

Mount Pleasant is Tenth Church’s largest congregation, a vibrant site home to a diverse, multi-generational community of students, young adults, families, seniors, newcomers, and long-time residents.

The Mount Pleasant Associate Pastor leads our “First Steps” initiatives, playing a pivotal role in helping people take meaningful steps in their faith and become fully connected and rooted in the life of the church. This role provides leadership for newcomer engagement and early discipleship, including leading the newcomer connections process, and hosting “New Here” events on Sundays. The Associate Pastor also oversees Tenth Online services and contributes to Tenth-wide ministries – including Local Missions, Benevolence, and Marriage – helping shape key areas of engagement and spiritual formation across the Mount Pleasant community and neighbourhood.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
First Steps (60%)
  • Serve as the primary catalyst for integration into the life of the church, collaborating with the MP Team to design, deliver, and evolve the process of helping individuals move from their first visit to being fully connected and rooted
  • Lead and innovate newcomer initiatives and welcome events, including “Stick 6”, ensuring every guest is known, noticed and cared for
  • Direct the Sunday “New Here” gatherings, effectively bridging newcomers into the life of the community
  • Serve as site champion for Tenth Local initiatives at MP including the “Seats to Streets” initiative, encouraging and mobilizing the congregation to live missionally in the neighbourhood
  • Create and lead opportunities for those exploring faith (i.e. Alpha, Tenth Spiritual Formation, etc.), ensuring clear discipleship pathways are established and followed

Tenth Online (20%)
  • Lead the “front porch” vision for Tenth Online in collaboration with the Creatives Team, ensuring a clear introduction and bridging avenues for those new to Tenth
  • Manage the Tenth Online portfolio under the direction of the Site Pastor, serving as the primary pastoral connection for online participants through weekly hosting, outros, and active engagement
  • Collaborate with Production and Creatives Teams to ensure consistency and quality, ensuring the in-person service experience is translated practically, accessibly, and meaningfully for those watching online
  • Design and execute avenues for bridging, creating virtual ministry opportunities that move people from digital viewing to in-person community

Pastoral Care & Tenth Support (20%)
  • Serve as a member of the MP adult pastoral team by collaborating around pastoral care, discipleship, and helping individuals grow in their faith
  • Serve as the primary pastoral contact for congregants preparing for marriage
  • Serve as a member of the Tenth Benevolence Committee representing MP
  • Support and facilitate the church membership process for individuals formalizing their commitment to the Tenth community
  • Participate in MP team meetings, staff meetings, trainings, and retreats as required

WHAT YOU BRING:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; M.Div. preferred
  • A Christ-centered leader with a passion for discipleship and community-building
  • A strong communicator who connects well with people who do not yet know Christ or have little experience with the church
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in pastoral ministry, ministry leadership and outreach
  • Experience in motivating and mobilizing individual adults and adult groups into service and leadership
  • Proven ability to translate vision into strategy with clear action points and administrative follow-through
  • Ability to assume responsibility and carry out duties with minimal supervision
  • Strong cultural intelligence and a collaborative team player who can navigate conflict within a diverse, multi-site church community
  • Comfort with digital engagement and the ability to adapt pastoral presence for online platforms; knowledge of production environments/elements is a strong asset
  • Licensed, accredited, and ordained (or eligible and willing to be licensed) with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA)
