The Tenth Refugee Support team is seeking a detail-oriented community builder with a heart for newcomers and strong administrative skills! In this role, you will support the Newcomers' Camp on Thetis Island in July by managing pre-camp logistics, facilitating on-site activities, and building meaningful relationships with camp attendees, volunteers and staff. Beyond the camp, you will contribute to Refugee Support by organizing vibrant community gatherings, managing administrative needs, and fostering belonging, a deeper sense of mutuality and shared hospitality within the broader community of refugee claimants, neighbors and Tenth volunteers.

*This position is subject to government funding through the 2025 Youth Canada Summer Jobs program. The successful candidate must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Canada Summer Jobs grant (see below).
Ways You Will Contribute:
Newcomers’ Camp at Thetis Island (60%):
- Facilitate registration of newcomers interested in attending Camp
- Coordinate and liaise with Camp organizers and volunteers on registration procedures, registrant information and deposits, and approved bursary recipients
- Support administering bursaries offered by Tenth Church to qualified newcomers
- Support coordinating Camp volunteers and communications
- Attend the Newcomers’ Camp at Thetis Island (July 5-11, 2025):
- Support and help facilitate activities and events
- Attend volunteer meetings
- Connect with newcomers at Camp, help foster a sense of welcome and community
- Conduct post-camp debriefing and follow-up
- Report progress to the Program Manager
Refugee Support (30%):
- Help organize and attend community events such as BBQs, picnics and other social gatherings
- Support members of the newcomer community with friendship and hospitality
- Engage in other tasks assigned by the Program Manager
Other Responsibilities (10%):
- Participate in staff meetings, training, retreats, and special staff events
What You Bring:
- Minimum of two years of post-secondary education (3-4 years preferred)
- Experience in event coordination, administration or community engagement is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication, listening and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to connect well with new people in a multi-ethnic, socially diverse environment
- Strong attention to detail and proficiency in MS 365 and other administrative tools
- Adaptable, flexible and a proactive problem solver
- Team oriented with the ability to work independently and take initiative
- Able to provide prayer and spiritual support as needed
- Agree with Tenth Church Statement of Faith
- Able to work occasionally in evenings and on weekends as needed
CSJ Eligibility Criteria:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
This is a summer contract hourly position where you will work 30 hours per week for 10 weeks. The contract will commence in early June and end in August 2025. Occasional schedule flexibility may be required, due to meetings and events held in the evening and on weekends.
Salary: $18.00 per hour
