If you are passionate about supporting people through significant life transitions and crises and are eager to grow within the church pastoral care ministry, we invite you to explore this unique summer opportunity!
 
At Tenth Church, we are dedicated to fostering healthy community connections where we encounter and celebrate Christ and journey toward wholeness together. In this role, you will provide pastoral care support to individuals navigating life challenges, offering resources on elderly care, grief, and other significant transitions. You will assist in the pastoral care process by providing administrative support, coordinating care efforts, and helping to launch a new volunteer pastoral care team.

*This position is subject to government funding through the 2025 Youth Canada Summer Jobs program. The successful candidate must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Canada Summer Jobs grant (see below).


Ways You Will Contribute:
  • Participate in the Stephen Ministries program for training on inclusive and sustainable care to individuals navigating grief, illness, divorce, and other life transitions
  • Assist in the launch, development and training of a volunteer pastoral care team
  • Assist in the pastoral care process, maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity and ensuring all concerns are treated with equitable respect and discretion
  • Manage communication and administrative tasks related to the pastoral care team and the Stephen Ministries program, including prayer requests, record keeping, and communication with care recipients
  • Participate in regular supervision and mentorship sessions with the Site Pastor and Associate Pastor to support personal and professional development
  • Provide encouragement, guidance and prayer support to team volunteers
 
What You Bring:
  • Coursework or education in ministry, theology, counselling, or social work is an asset
  • Knowledge or experience in mental health, crises intervention or team development is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong administrative skills and demonstrated ability to manage resources, goals and timelines
  • Some level of comfort working alongside adults navigating pastoral care concerns
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with respect and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive, welcoming, and relational space for people navigating challenges
  • Team-oriented mindset and the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Proficiency in MS 365 and familiarity with Planning Center Online is an asset
  • A genuine interest in caring for others, especially those navigating difficult life situations
  • Adaptable, flexible and a proactive problem solver
  • A desire for personal equipping and growth and contributing to the church’s pastoral care mission
  • Possess an authentic faith and walk with Jesus
  • Agree with Tenth Church Statement of Faith

CSJ Eligibility Criteria:
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations 
 
This is a summer contract hourly position where you will work 35 hours per week for 7 weeks. The contract will commence in July and end in late August 2025.
 
Salary: $17.40 per hour
