We are looking for a Refugee Support Coordinator who will focus on the housing program and help support the housing participants who reside in the homes entrusted to Tenth’s care. The Refugee Support Coordinator is responsible for helping to foster belonging, a deeper sense of mutuality, and shared hospitality among newly arrived refugee claimants and the wider Community (consisting of community members and volunteers).
 

Ways You Will Contribute:

Housing (80%):
  • Help administer Refugee Support’s housing program and oversee participant adherence to housing agreements
  • Provide support to Housing Participants through regular home visits and relationship building, delivery of program benefits (e.g., gift cards for groceries), coordinating and supporting volunteers who support Housing Participants, referrals to other organizations and resources, facilitating communications with government agencies, and other types of support as needed
  • Help support the intake, move-in, and move-out of Housing Participants by working with volunteers, partner agencies, and donors of household furnishings and items, as needed
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of the homes managed by Refugee Support, including arranging for the cleaning/maintenance of properties and ensuring payment of utilities and internet services
  • Maintain records on housing program activities and expenditures and input database entries
  • Update the Program Manager on the needs and status of Housing Participants and discuss how to provide the support they need
  • Attend Volunteer Leadership Team meetings, volunteer training sessions, meetings with volunteers, and community events, as requested by the Program Manager
 
Other Responsibilities (20%):
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, retreats and special staff events
 

What You Bring:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working closely with and relating to people in vulnerable populations or an equivalent combination of education and training
  • Previous experience supporting refugees and/or working in the settlement sector is strongly preferred
  • Well developed relational skills and demonstrated ability to build rapport with refugee claimants, volunteers, and team members
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, effective listening skills, and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated success in conflict resolution
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, act with a high degree of integrity, exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Strong sense of self and ability to observe boundaries, maintain confidentiality, while building effective and safe relationships
  • Strong self-awareness regarding the presence and impact of racism, trauma, oppression, power differentials, and cultural difference
  • Strong computer skills including competency in using Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, and data entry
  • Agreement with Tenth Church’s Statement of Faith and the policies outlined in Tenth’s Employee Handbook
  • Able to provide Christian prayer and spiritual support as needed
  • Acknowledge Tenth Church as their church home through regular participation in gatherings of the community
  • Must obtain Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Valid BC driver’s license, clean driving record, and daily access to a personal vehicle

This a part-time position where you will work 15 to 20 hours per week. 
 
Salary is commensurate with experience; the salary range is $18,720 to $24,960 per annum.
